Privacy Policy
Last updated 11 August 2026
Book Mockup Studio is run by the Writing Wives ("we", "us"). This policy explains what we collect, what we don't, and who else is involved. It's written to be read rather than to be impressive.
The short version
Your cover images are never uploaded. They are processed entirely inside your own browser and stored only on your own device. The only personal data we ever receive is an email address, and only if you choose to type one in.
Your cover images and mockups
Everything this site does to your images happens locally, on your computer, using your browser's own graphics hardware. Covers you add — including PDFs, which are converted to images in the browser — are never transmitted to us or to anyone else.
To let you pick up where you left off, your covers and your template choices are saved in your browser's local storage (IndexedDB and localStorage). This data stays on your device, is not readable by us, and is deleted when you use the Clear button in the "Your covers" panel or clear your browser's site data.
Your email address
When you download a mockup for the first time we ask for an email address so we can tell you about new templates and other author tools. Providing it is your choice.
What we do with it: we add it to a mailing list and use it to send you occasional updates about our tools. We do not sell it, rent it, or share it for anyone else's marketing.
Who else sees it: our mailing list is operated on our behalf by EmailOctopus (EmailOctopus Ltd, United Kingdom), acting as our data processor. Your address is stored on their systems and is subject to their privacy policy. We share it with them for the sole purpose of sending you these emails.
How long we keep it: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. Every email we send contains a one-click unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes you from the list.
Our lawful basis for processing it (UK/EU GDPR) is your consent, given when you submit the form. You can withdraw that consent at any time, and doing so does not affect anything we sent before you withdrew it.
Hosting and server logs
The site is hosted on Cloudflare, which processes requests on our behalf and keeps short-lived technical logs (including IP addresses) for security, abuse prevention, and keeping the service running. We do not use those logs to build a profile of you.
Usage counts
We keep simple tallies so we know which templates are worth making more of: when a template is opened, and when a mockup is downloaded. Each one adds 1 to a counter for that template on that date.
That is genuinely all it is. There's no identifier, no cookie, no session, no IP address, and nothing linking one action to another — two people using the site and one person using it twice produce identical records. We cannot tell from this data who did anything, or that any two events came from the same person.
You don't have to take our word for it: everything we collect is on the usage page, in full.
What we don't do
- No analytics or tracking scripts of any kind, and no third-party analytics service. The counters above are our own and record no one's identity.
- No advertising cookies, no third-party trackers, no cross-site tracking.
- No cookies set by this site. The browser storage described above is functional — it holds your own covers and settings — and is never sent to a server.
- No account, no password, no profile — this site never asks you to sign in.
If you use an Author Tools account
Book Mockup Studio is part of Author Tools. If you have signed in at account.authortools.net, your browser sends that sign-in cookie to every authortools.net site, including this one. We use it for exactly two things: to show your name in the top bar, and to skip the email prompt on your first download, because that account already has your address. The check happens on our server using only the account service's public key; nothing from it is stored, and no visit is recorded against your account. Signing out over there ends it. If you don't have an account, none of this applies.
Children
This site is intended for authors and cover designers and is not directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect their personal data.
Your rights
If you're in the UK, EU, or another region with similar law, you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to how we use it, and to receive a copy of it in a portable form. In practice the only personal data we hold is your email address, so most requests amount to "show me" or "delete me", and we'll act on either.
To exercise any of these, email [CONTACT EMAIL]. If you believe we've handled your data badly, you may also complain to your local data protection authority — in the UK, that's the Information Commissioner's Office.
International transfers
Our processors (EmailOctopus and Cloudflare) may process data outside your country. Where data leaves the UK or EEA, those transfers rely on the safeguards described in the processors' own privacy documentation, such as standard contractual clauses.
Changes
If we change this policy we'll update the date at the top. Material changes to how we use your email address will be announced in an email to the list.
